Treasure Island

The story begins on a dark and stormy night. A boy called Jim works in a pub called “The Admiral Benbow Inn”. A strange man comes to the inn for rum, food and a room to sleep. The man says he is an old sailor and his name is Billy Bones. He has a big chest with him.

Billy Bones stays for a long time at the inn. One day, a blind man comes to see Billy. His name is Blind Pew. He says he’s Billy’s friend. They talk and drink rum but when Blind Pew asks Billy for his map, Billy becomes angry. Blind Pew is a pirate and he gives Billy THE BLACK SPOT.

It is a sign from the other pirates. Billy must die if he does not give the pirates the map. Billy is so afraid that he has a heart attack and dies.

Jim tries to help him but it is too late. Jim opens Billy’s chest and finds the map. He runs away with it.

Pirates come to the inn to look for the map. They find Billy dead, but there is no map. They understand that Jim has got it.

Meanwhile, Jim runs to Doctor Livesey, the village doctor. Doctor Livesey is a very clever, rich man.

He realises that the map is a pirates’ treasure map. It shows an island called Skeleton Island in the middle of the ocean.

Doctor Livesey decides to sail to Skeleton Island with Jim to look for the treasure.

Doctor Livesey’s ship is called “The Hispaniola”. There are lots of sailors on the ship ...


... and one strange man, the ship’s cook. His name is Long John Silver and he has a pet parrot. He and Jim become friends.

BUT Long John Silver is really a PIRATE! He tells the other sailors that they must become pirates too and they will take control of the ship and have the treasure.

When the ship arrives at Skeleton Island, Jim and Doctor Livesey take the map and go and look for the treasure. They find the place ...

Long John Silver and Morgan the pirate look for the treasure but they can’t find it. Then they hear a strange, ghostly voice.

Morgan is afraid. He thinks it is the ghost of Billy Bones, come back to look for his treasure chest. He runs away and leaves Long John Silver.

Jim returns, looking for the Doctor. He sees Long John. Long John tells Jim that they are still friends and that he does not want to be a pirate anymore. Jim believes him and they go to look for the treasure together, but the treasure is not there!! Long John Silver is very angry. He and Jim fight.

Who is the mysterious person who helps Jim? It is a man called Ben Gunn. He has lived on the island for many years. He was a sailor on the ship of bad captain Flint, a terrible pirate (together with Billy Bones, Blind Pew, Morgan and Long John Silver). The pirates left him on the island and went back to England. Ben Gunn has the treasure and now he wants to return home with Jim and Doctor Livesey and they will all be rich and live happily ever after….or will they?
